ProMeTeus a RISE-MSCA Staff exchange program. Challenges and opportunities in biomedicine and biotechnology.

Title:

ProMeTeus, a RISE-MSCA Staff exchange program. Challenges and opportunities in biomedicine and biotechnology.

Synopsis:

The presentation will summarize the ProMeTeus MSCA-RISE project coordinated by the Sapienza University of Rome in Italy, that is pursuing a training and research collaboration centered on membrane proteins and related technologies. Partners include Academic Institutions and Companies in Europe and in the USA, (ITQB, iBET and ExtremoChem in Portugal).

The main target pursued by Sapienza is steroid-5-alpha dihydrogenases, membrane proteins central in the activation and metabolism of steroid hormones but other scientific problems such as the Cryo-EM structure of human ferritin with the CD71 receptor have advancended significatively thanks to the activitities of the Prometeus Consortium.

Some advancements and methodologies in enzymology and structural biology of proteins of relevance in biotechnology and biomedicine will be discussed.

Beatrice Vallone is Full Professor of Biochemistry at the Dept. of Biochemical Sciences of the Sapienza University of Rome (Italy). The work of the group is focused on structural biology and enzymology of proteins, the main methodologies used are crystallography and single-particle CryoEM and biophysical and spectroscopic methods for activity and stability analysis.
